How big is the Internet?
Earlier we expressed an aversion for seminar presenters who spend too much time talking about the history of the Net, old software or likely growth scenarios. This one page covers our entire history lesson and growth predictions. We felt it important to reemphasize that the Net is BIG, and getting bigger every hour.
Attempting to tabulate the exact number of Internet users is like trying to count black tee shirts at a Harley-Davidson rally. You know the total number is large, but youll probably end up counting the same shirts more than once and miss many others.
Although impossible to pinpoint the exact number of users and machines that make up the Internet, suffice it to say that it is HUGE and growing larger every day. Approximately one-half of the households in the United States own a computer with a modem, you simply can no longer ignore the possibilities the Internet holds for your business. The number of commercial sites on the Web has been doubling almost every year. This major expansion in commercial Web sites is a result of the tremendous growth in the adoption of Internet and World Wide Web technologies by businesses. For small business, the Internet is more than just an electronic brochure, it is a serious business tool. |
